Midtown Madness 1 is a racing game by Microsoft. Game offers an open world environment. Player can change cars, weather and traffic conditions. Game also offers multiplayer mode in which two or more players can play the game at the same time and can race in different races and tracks. Game features four single player modes checkpoint, cruise, circuit and blitz. In checkpoint races, player must dodge through hoards of traffic in order to reach the checkpoint in time. Extra time is added when player reaches a checkpoint before time. Player can choose any track in order to reach a checkpoint which means there are no specific tracks in order to race in. Police is also added to checkpoint races. Police seems to be a difficult obstacle because player must try to ignore them and they will try to stop player from further progressing. In circuit races, player must compete with other vehicles. In cruise mode, player can explore the world with any desired vehicle. At first only four vehicles are available but by progressing in the game more vehicles can be unlocked. There are total 10 vehicles. In blitz races, player must reach a point in time which is similar to the checkpoint races. Vehicle's colors can be changes in the game. World's map is actually the recreation of Chicago where many landmarks are also added to game. Player can crush many objects on the streets. There is a traffic light system in the game by which all the traffic is handled. Car's damage system has also been introduced in the game which means there is visible damage on the car. When car is to damaged, black smoke will start coming out from car's engine, and at last the tyres will come out of the car, car can not be moved for sometime till its repaired once again. Game has a completely different graphics system compared to other games. New sound effects has been added to game with which the game's scenes becomes more and more realistic.
